Autumn, Beauty, Poetry

Fall Impressions | Poetry

Liběchov woods, Czech Republic
The leaves of gold on branches grew,
Bare branches on the trees were seen.
The autumnal sun came flaring in,
Over the hill-tops devoid of green.
The woods were quiet, they lay in wait,
For harsh winter that comes their way.
Darkness lingers a while longer,
The sun weakens with each passing day.
Blazing in scarlet red and gold,
The ageing woods are a sight to behold.
As nature prepares to begin anew,
It sheds all that is mature and old.
It is that time of the year when
Mushrooms sprout beneath the rocks.
The wind carries withered leaves
And leaves them floating on the lochs.
Kokořín castle at Mělník, Czech Republic
On solitary walks, in woodlands deep
I savor the last rites of vibrant Fall.
Gleaming in golden, lustrous and bright
Aspens leaned on an old castle wall.
Brick red turrets on the castle top,
A carpet of brown on the forest floor.
The castle of old stood tall and proud,
Echoing tales of eras long gone before.

Gone are the days of merry youth
Those simpler days when all was fair.
The fine gossamer of delicate dreams
Once unwoven, perishes in despair.
Like fallen leaves, in a ripened hue
Memories fade, forever lost in time.
When the clock chimes, I stall its ticks,
Lest Life loses its rhythm and rhyme.

When the trees are drawn into a sere,
And the autumn foliage flares no more .
Icy winter lulls the woods to sleep,
Virgin snow covers the forest floor.
The earth slumbers in deep repose,
Till the little robin flaps its wing.
Frozen rivers thaw the wintry spell,
I sit and await the glorious spring!

  1. Beautiful words, Leah, and wow with the photos as well ~ I’m heading back to Czech in January (although with the way things are in the States and the EU) I may put it off for a little bit… You make me wish to be walking in the Liběchov woods right now 🙂 I hope you had a great holiday season, although my guess is you may be studying ~ take care, and wish you a wonderful, healthy, and happy year ahead.
