I've rowed on for many a mile - For hours deep into the silent night - With not a mere soul in near sight - Under the bleak and dim wintry light. I row down the winding stream - To see you for perhaps one more time - In passionate strokes, I stir the waves - In a rhythmic jiggle and visual rhyme. Rowing on over waters wild - Under a pale, silvery waning moon - In mellow whispers and dulcet tones - I reach deep down and hum our tune. Swirling mists, misshapen forms - Phantasms of a lifetime by your side - In your loving arms, I embrace my role - As your truest friend, lover and bride. A silver giant with bare branches - Arms outstretched towards the moon - Under its soft glow on the lovers bridge, We fell in love, all too fast, too soon. In tireless haste, I row further on - Under grey and Stygian starless skies - When in front of my eyes, there arose - A million floating orbs of fireflies.
You love so much, yet promise little - Fill my head with hopes of morrow - Yet, not a drop quenches my thirst - Why then, do I drown in sorrow? I've rowed now for countless miles - Will I ever reach my journey's end? Will you plant a kiss upon my lips? Will you greet me at the river bend? My once hopeful spirit weakens - As each murky dusk turns to dawn - Beguiled by love and lofty dreams - With a longing heart, I row on.

Dark….🌚 But moving and truthful. Love is the source of our most satisfying, joyful moments in life, but it can also be the source of daily and eternal frustration when you either cannot find the one you are looking for or you’ve already found who but it cannot ever go from dream to real world. That’s what this poem moves me to see.
